Vernon Virtual Class Program: A Virtual School Program delivers teaching expertise through five online, "real time", academic classes. These go to senior students in the five district high schools. The goal was to share specialty academic classes with schools where they had been unavailable, or where course timetable conflicts prevented students from taking their desired courses.

SMARTreading: improving student literacy: District 40's goal was to see valid and reliable reading and writing assessments in grade one through twelve -- and they have. They use research-based methodology to dramatically improve all students' literacy. The program works at both the district and school level to include grade-specific learning facilitators, research teams, collaborative action teams, grade group/department interactions, and skill-focused tool-kits.

LUCID engaging students' imaginations : For two and a half years, teachers in schools with high numbers of Aboriginal learners have been brainstorming. The goal was to engage their students' imaginations with the academic curriculum, by creating emotional connections with the subject matter and skills.

Learning Connections: School teams of principals, support teachers and classroom teachers met with district staff monthly to develop strategies for meeting the literacy and numeracy needs of vulnerable students. Teachers also met in teams with project leaders to plan, implement, and debrief learning strategies and assessment tools in classrooms.

Rethinking the Special in Education - A Model for Coaching: Learning Support Teams in every school worked to better support the learning needs of all students. This practice has created a supervision model and an environment of collaboration that involves teacher-to-teacher coaching and mentoring. It allows all staff to take responsibility for the learning needs of every student.
