Become an even MORE effective school trustee
Get the essentials of school trusteeship at BCSTA’s Key Work Academy, Thursday, December 4 to Saturday, December 6 at Vancouver’s Westin Bayshore. Whether you’re a new or returning trustee, you’ll benefit from the dynamic program of stellar speakers and timely, relevant workshops.
Mossi White
Past president of the National School Boards Association, a member of the Provo City (Utah) School District Board of Education since 1987, and a three-term board president, Mossi will address the topic “Locally Elected Boards of Education: A Foundation of Democratic Society.” She will inspire trustees to become fully engaged in their important work. Mossi will explain how trustees, by working hard to make a difference in the lives of students, will make a difference in the future of British Columbia and Canada. She will also stress the urgency of being the most effective board members ever.
Dr. Mary Delagardelle
Mary, who works with the Iowa Association of School Boards in professional development activities, will present a plenary and workshop on “Making a Difference: What Can Boards Do?” It’s a return appearance by Mary, following up on her highly successful AGM session on the results of The Lighthouse Inquiry. The seminal Iowa Association of School Boards study, in which Mary was a key researcher, yielded invaluable information about the effectiveness of school boards. Mary will describe the seven characteristics of effective boards and provide opportunities for participants to discuss how to incorporate these characteristics in their own board work.
Key Work Plenaries
President Connie Denesiuk and Executive Director Stephen Hansen will kick off these sessions with a brief overview of BCSTA and its services. Experienced trustees Alan Chell, Revelstoke, Gordon Comeau, Princeton, Jane Kellett, West Vancouver and Penny Tees, West Kootenays, will guide participants through a series of presentations and activities based on the updated Key Work Manual. Learn more about the role and responsibilities of trusteeship, working as a board team, monitoring and evaluation and connecting with your community.
And more …
There’s also the President’s Reception Thursday evening, student entertainment, the hilarious improv group Rock, Paper Scissors, partner group displays, branch meetings, and more.
