What We Do

The mission of the BC School Trustees Association (BCSTA) is to support and advocate for effective public boards of education and quality public education in British Columbia.The key work of school boards is improving student achievement through community engagement.

Locally elected boards of education are the public’s voice in public education. They connect with their communities and ensure that local values and priorities are reflected in public school programs, policies and operations. The boards of education represent all citizens in their communities and make decisions to support all district students in reaching their educational goals. The specific duties of school boards are described in British Columbia’s School Act.

Representing BC’s 60 school boards, BCSTA serves 100 per cent of the total public school population.

The Association lobbies the provincial government and other organizations to act on issues that will help improve public education in all BC communities.

BCSTA aims to fulfill its mission through effective governance , educational events and useful services for school trustees, communications support and information sharing through a variety of publications, advocacy work and special trustee resources.
