Mike Roberts, CEO

Mike Roberts is BCSTA’s Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, Mike is responsible to the BCSTA Board of Directors for the overall staff operations of the organization. He provides direct support to BCSTA's President as well as Boards of Education. Mike has more than thirty years of experience in the education sector and has an extensive background in teaching, administration, labour relations and all levels of government including local school district, employers’ association and Ministry of Education work.

Zorica Jovic, Administrative Assistant

Zorica Jovic brings with her over seven years of experience in supporting senior-level executives, meetings, training/seminars, tradeshows and conferences. She has a diploma in Media Techniques in Business and Communications from BCIT Vancouver. She also has a background in project management, event management, written and oral communication skills, stakeholder engagement (internal and external), evaluation and measurement.

Donna Depretto, Program Assistant, Administration

Donna Depretto is BCSTA’s receptionist and provides clerical support. Donna has an Administrative Assistant certificate.

Communications

Glenda Ollero, Media and Graphics Specialist

Glenda Ollero is responsible for the oversight of the Association's media relations, the production of all internal and external print and online publications, the management of event and campaign branding, and the planning and implementation of campaigns and advocacy strategies. As member of BCSTA's senior staff, Glenda participates in organizational and strategic planning, provides direct support to the Board of Directors, committees and provincial branches. She holds a bachelor's degree in Development Communications from the University of the Philippines, and in Creative Communications from Red River College.

Mark W. Regier, Technical Writer and Website Specialist

Mark Regier joined BCSTA as a senior staff member in the second half of 2016 and brought with him communications experience from both the private and public sectors.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on marketing management and provides oversight to BCSTA’s publications and online presence.

Education

Lynn Green, Acting Director, Education Services

Lynn Green is responsible for planning and organizing a variety of professional development activities for Boards of Education members including the annual general meeting education program, the Canadian School Boards Association National Congress and National Trustee Gathering on Aboriginal Education in July 2017, and the annual Trustee Academy. She also provides leadership support to the BCSTA Professional Learning Committee. Over Lynn’s forty year career in public education she has fulfilled various roles including teacher, counsellor, school and district administrator, staff development consultant, and most recently Associate Superintendent, Vancouver School District.

Sara Hunter, Program Assistant, Education

Sara is responsible for planning, coordinating and the onsite operations of Board of Director and trustee professional development activities as well as BCSTA events and governance meetings. She coordinates services for events, such as contracting conference facilities and organizing meeting space, catering and audio-visual services. Prior to joining BCSTA, she worked in hotel sales and more recently meeting planning for a small association. Sara has a diploma in Tourism Management from Capilano University.

Valerie Overgaard, Acting Director, Education Services

Valerie Overgaard is responsible for the planning and organization of events and the development of resources in support of professional learning, including the Trustee Academy and New Trustee Orientation. She has worked in schools, universities, the Ministry of Education and in the Vancouver School District where she was Associate Superintendent. Valerie completed her PhD in teaching and curriculum and much of her career has been focused on those areas of education.

Finance

Jodi Olstead, Director, Finance & Human Resources

Jodi Olstead is responsible for the fiscal stewardship of BCSTA and the School Community Connections Program (SCCP), reporting to BCSTA’s Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors. Jodi is BCSTA’s human resources manager, privacy officer, and staff liaison on the Finance and BCSTA/BCTF Group Life Insurance Committees. Jodi has her CGA designation and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Sciences.

Kerston Daley, Program Assistant, Finance

Kerston Daley holds a Bachelor of Arts from Thompson Rivers University and is in the process of completing the CPA PEP program. Prior to joining BCSTA, Kerston worked as an administrator and accountant for an online travel company, and also spent several years working as a senior recruiter for an employment agency.

Legal

Audrey Ackah, Legal Counsel

Audrey Ackah obtained Honours Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Political Science from UBC. She was a BC Legislative Intern and had the opportunity to work in a government Ministry and to work with members of the Legislative Assembly. She then obtained a law degree from the University of Toronto. Audrey practiced law at law firms and at a regulatory agency where she gained experience in the areas of school, employment, human rights, labour, litigation and information and privacy law.

Kylie Blenkhorn, Program Assistant, Legal Services

Kylie Blenkhorn assists BCSTA’s Legal Counsel as Program Assistant for Legal Services. She has over ten years of experience in the legal industry and has gained experience working in a variety of areas of law, specializing in foreclosure, wills and estates, and civil litigation. Kylie holds a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Capilano University.  Prior to joining BCSTA, Kylie was working as an Administrative Assistant for a local school district.

Information & Education Technology

Matthew Taylor, Manager, Information Technology

Matt comes to BCSTA with a wide range of experience and training as an information technology professional.  Prior to joining BCSTA, Matt invested 18 years in a variety of senior technical and service roles within local school board settings. A graduate of BCIT and Kwantlen Polytechnic, he continues to challenge himself academically by taking advanced courses at Thompson Rivers University. 

Charged with maintaining and improving BCSTA’s overall IT infrastructure and services, his areas of focus include managing document management systems, supporting web development and providing administrative oversight to BCSTA on-line learning technologies.
