Community engagement
Communities expect boards to be accountable and responsive. As a process, community engagement can help boards to meet these objectives. Although trustees are elected to represent their constituents, there are many occasions when a board needs to hear directly from members of the public, for instance:
- when a significant choice must be made
- when the nature of the problem is unclear
- when additional information is required, and
- when choices that affect personal values are involved.
