Property acquistion and disposal
The board, as a corporate entity, owns all of the school district’s physical assets and is responsible for making decisions about land acquisition and disposal. Acquiring and disposing of school property has become a bigger issue in some jurisdictions as boards grapple with declining enrollment and population shifts.
A 2008 ministerial order requires boards to obtain the Minister’s approval for most sales and long term leases.
