Some dates are fixed by legislation; others vary year by year. See the BCSTA Trustee Datebook, published annually, for more information.
September
The first Tuesday after Labour Day—the school year officially begins
September—assignments of students and teachers are finalized
October
October—BCSTA Provincial Council meeting
October—class size reports submitted to ministry
October/November—boards submit the capital plan to the ministry
November
November 15—Boards submit requests for CommunityLINK (Learning Includes Nutrition and Knowledge) funding
December
December—new boards take office after November election held every three years
December—BCSTA Trustee Academy
December—winter festival events
December—winter holidays
January
January 31—boards submit student achievement reports to the ministry
January—community engagement re the budget
February
February—BCSTA Provincial Council meeting
February—BCSTA Trustee Academy (only in the year following municipal elections)
Feb. 28—annual district goals finalized
March
March 15—ministry must provide operating budget figure for the district
March 16— in the year following municipal elections, this is the last day for trustees to file campaign financing disclosure statements without penalty
March—ministry informs board of the capital budget projects that have been approved
March—spring break
April
April—BCSTA AGM
April 28—preliminary budget approved
May
May—school fees approved by the ministry
May—school-leaving ceremonies begin
June
June—school-leaving ceremonies continue
June—summer holidays begin
July
July 15—district literacy plan must be submitted to the ministry
July—district achievement contract submitted
August
August—Administrators and teachers return to their schools to prepare for the new year
