Board Services

To assist trustees in their work on the board and in the community, BCSTA provides in-depth professional services. We offer these services at our conferences and via online programs.

By arrangement with Suzanne Hoffman, CEO, we also help boards, regions or educational groups with programs and support materials to address specific education and training needs they’ve identified.

BCSTA can help boards of education engaged in organizational development with member support activities from a variety of experts in the following fields:

  • Organizational and financial reviews
  • Mediation

  • Strategic planning
  • Superintendent search and evaluation
  • Communication reviews
  • Professional learning sessions

Contact Suzanne Hoffman, CEO for more information about BCSTA’s support services.

Legal Services

BCSTA’s Legal Services Department provides a first point of contact for boards seeking guidance in legal, policy and governance matters. Requests from individual boards of education for summary legal advice are dealt with directly through BCSTA at no cost to members. In addition, BCSTA’s Legal Services Department provides legal and policy advice of provincial consequence to all member boards of education. BCSTA organizes legal, policy and governance topics at events. Staff also represents the association on external committees including the Schools Protection Program Advisory Committee, BCTF/BCSTA Group Life Insurance Committee and the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act Technical Advisory Committee.

Group Life Insurance Plan

The BCTF/BCSTA Group Life Insurance Plan provides life insurance benefits to employees of participating B.C. public boards of education. The plan was established in 1967 and provides competitive benefits at reasonable rates. The current version of the Administrative Guidelines for Group Life Insurance (1MB ZIP) can be downloaded here. The plan is also available on the BCSTA Portal (our members only area) under the board chairs section.
